Wanted: Annual Conference Speakers and Committee Volunteers

This year, NAILTA is proud to celebrate our fourth annual national convention in Baltimore, Maryland, September 30, 2012 through October 2, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel - Inner Harbor.  We are working hard to obtain presentation and speaker commitments from the following:

  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
  • State Department of Insurance Representatives
  • HUD
  • Members of Congress
  • Regional Title Insurance Underwriters
  • Title Insurance Agents

The format for this year's convention will include morning CE/CLE sessions in the main ballroom, a designated exhibition area for vendors and networking and several breakout hour-long breakout sessions for CE/CLE credit.

Congratulations to Indiana!

Congratulations to all who participated in the formation of the Indiana Association of Independent Land Title Agents (IAILTA).  The new Board has since approved unanimously the Bylaws, dues structure and elected the below officers, so they are set to move. Membership applications are now available online by clicking here.

The next Board meeting will be held in  Noblesville, Indiana on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 3:00pm at the Cambria Suites Hotel.  That meeting will follow GTIC's Winter CE Seminar which will be available for all to attend free-of-charge and will start at 9:00am.

LAILTA - 1st Annual Seminar and Business Meeting

Rob Holman at LAILTA 1st Annual Seminar

The Louisiana Association of Independent Land Title Agents (LAILTA) held their inaugural seminar and meeting in Baton Rouge, LA on November 4, 2011, where those in attendance received 6 hours of MCLE for the State Bar Association and 6 hours CE for the Department of Insurance Title Producer License.  The Board of Directors were elected and a Legislative Committee was established.  A plan was made for a Spring conference to discuss the bills being introduced in the upcoming legislature.

Robert B. Holman, Secretary and Chairman of NAILTA's policy and legal affairs committee spoke at the event on the topic of national trends concerning modern independent land title agents.

The session was attended by over 55 LA attorneys and LAILTA members, including representatives from Stewart Title, WFG Title and Security Title of Baltimore – all interested underwriters in the new organization.  LAILTA is going to utilize OAITA’s Settlement Preference Survey in LA for use this year and collect data much the same as they did in 2009 and 2010.

55 agents joined with 2 vendors, Require and LandTech, and 3 Underwriters, Security Title Guarantee of Baltimore, Stewart Title Guaranty Company, and WFG National Title.

 
CFPB Seeks Public Comment on New HUD-1 Settlement Statement

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureua (CFPB) introduced two new versions of the HUD-1 Settlement Statement for public comment.  Since independent title agencies are the best laboratories we have for these documents, please review the HUD forms and provide your comments directly to the CFPB.  The forms are not yet official, but you can expect another revised HUD-1 Settlement Statement by June of 2012.

LAILTA is a non-profit trade association that represents the interests of independent title insurance agents and independent real estate settlement professionals from across the State of Louisiana. It was created August 9, 2011 by independent land title agents who seek to further the agenda of small business owners from within the title insurance, abstracting, surveying, and real estate community who lack representation. As an independent land title agent and/or settlement service professional, your voice is important and we want to hear from you!
